Sri Lankan new year is not limited to one two communities, usually our new year is known as Sinhala and Tamil new year, sometimes it is called Hindu and Buddhist new year. In fact it is celebrated in Sri Lanka as well as some part of in India, beyond India and Sri Lanka countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and all south East Asia countries celebrate this New Year. China and Japan also have the spring festival during this time.
Practicle aspect of the New Year;
New Year means renewal of thought, ideas and relationship, and overcome all misfortunes mistakes and heartbreaking incidents in past year. Families and friends they share not only thoughts but gifts, foods and sweets.
Sri Lankan New Year is related with the nature:
When the arrival of the new year come a new beginning for all of us seems the nature also witness the renewal, couple of weeks ago the trees were bear trees but now their shooting tender leaves and some trees are full of flowers and some are still blooming, cold whether had ended and warm temperature as arrived, therefore not only people but the whole nature seems celebrating the new year.
